The Foundation: Steam-Distilled Rose Hydrosol
Most bottles on a shelf begin with plain water. For me, that felt too empty, too clinical, to be the first note of something sacred. I wanted the foundation to carry intention, to be as alive as the actives layered above it.
That is why the base of this serum is not water. It is rose hydrosol that I distill myself.
Steam distillation is a slow alchemy. Rose petals meet water and heat, and as steam rises it carries with it the flower’s water-soluble compounds — delicate acids, trace oils, antioxidants, and plant sugars. When that steam cools and condenses, what remains is hydrosol, often called the soul of the plant.
Hydrosols are gentler than essential oils, but more nourishing than water. They hold the subtle fragrance of the flower along with molecules that soothe, balance, and hydrate the skin.

The secret is simple: apply it to damp skin. You can leave your face slightly dewy after cleansing, or mist with a hydrating toner such as Gypsy Soul Veil of Calm Toner. With calendula, aloe, willow bark, and panthenol, this toner was crafted to work in synergy with the serum, offering not only hydration for HA to bind to but soothing and pH-balancing support as well.
Once the serum absorbs, follow with a moisturizer — like MycoGlow Daily Moisturizer or your own favorite — to lock in the water and complete the ritual.
