Cleansing is where every ritual begins. But not all cleansers are created equal. Many strip the skin, leaving it tight and raw. Some are filled with synthetics that foam beautifully but offer little kindness.
Velvet Petal was made differently — a waterless botanical powder that transforms with just a few drops of water into a soft, creamy lather. It is a cleanser that doesn’t just clean. It softens, nourishes, and restores, leaving your skin cared for rather than stripped bare.
Why a Powder Cleanser?
Most cleansers are pre-mixed with water, which means they require preservatives and stabilizers. A powder cleanser is different. It is concentrated, preservative-free, and activated fresh with every use.
Because it begins dry, Velvet Petal avoids the need for harsh preservatives and fillers. Every scoop is pure plant, clay, and milk — no compromises.
✨ This is why it is so important to keep the jar completely dry. Never introduce water or moisture into the container. Always use the included bamboo spoon or a clean, dry utensil to measure your powder. Add water only in your palm, never in the jar. This simple step keeps your cleanser fresh, safe, and as potent as the day it was blended.
The Plants and Minerals Within
Each ingredient was chosen with purpose, blending ancestral knowledge with modern science:
Kaolin & Bentonite Clays: gentle detoxifiers. Kaolin softly draws impurities while bentonite swells as it absorbs, helping remove oil and buildup without stripping the skin’s natural barrier. Clays have been used for centuries in cleansing rituals, and modern studies confirm their ability to absorb impurities and soothe inflammation.
Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate: a coconut-derived cleanser that produces a soft, creamy lather. Unlike harsh sulfates, it cleanses without damaging the skin barrier or causing tightness.
Colloidal Oatmeal: backed by decades of dermatological research, oats contain beta-glucans and avenanthramides, which reduce inflammation, soothe irritation, and strengthen the skin’s natural barrier.
Goat Milk Powder: a traditional skincare ally, rich in lactic acid, a natural alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) that gently exfoliates and promotes cell renewal. Its fats and proteins nourish while refining texture, offering both softness and a touch of radiance.
Milled Rose Petals & Rose Hips: I mill and sift these myself, choosing the exact texture that feels right in the hand. A small amount of grit from the rose hips is left intentionally, offering just enough gentle exfoliation. Feedback says people enjoy this — that soft “grit feel” that polishes without scratching. Roses bring flavonoids and antioxidants, while rose hips carry natural vitamin C, long known to brighten and support collagen synthesis.
Aloe Vera & Arrowroot: both known for their soothing qualities. Aloe delivers polysaccharides that hydrate and calm, while arrowroot lends a silky finish and helps balance oil.
Maitake Mushroom Extract: an adaptogen from the forest. Rich in beta-glucans, maitake supports the skin barrier, helps it hold onto hydration, and may reduce oxidative stress. Modern research on mushrooms in skincare is growing, confirming what traditional medicine has long known — they are allies of resilience.
Together, these ingredients form a cleanser that is not just functional, but nurturing, weaving science and ritual into every use.
How to Use
Velvet Petal is best measured with the included bamboo spoon — about ½ teaspoon per use.
Place the powder into your palm.
Add just a few drops of water (or hydrosol) — enough to hydrate, but not so much that it turns runny.
Rub your palms together to create a soft, creamy lather. This keeps the powder from puffing up in the air as you work it.
Massage gently onto damp skin for 30–60 seconds.
Rinse and follow with toner, serum, and moisturizer.
It does not take much. A little powder, a little water, and the botanicals bloom into a cleanser that leaves your skin calm, soft, and cared for.
Why It Matters
Velvet Petal is preservative-free, concentrated, and made with whole botanicals that I mill and sift myself. It is proof that even cleansing — the simplest step of all — can be intentional and alive.
Where high-end cleansers may sell you water, fillers, and foam, Velvet Petal offers clays, milk, oats, and flowers. Where others rely on chemicals to mimic softness, this powder gives it through plants, minerals, and mushrooms.
This is why Gypsy Soul stands apart. Because I believe cleansing should be the beginning of nourishment, not the stripping away of it.
🌸 Ingredient Spotlight: Rose & Rose Hips
Roses are more than a symbol — they are chemistry and care.
Rose Petals: rich in flavonoids and polyphenols, petals bring antioxidant protection to calm and shield the skin from environmental stress. Their gentle compounds soften and soothe, reminding us that strength can also be tender.
Rose Hips: the fruit of the rose, filled with natural vitamin C and carotenoids. Vitamin C is well studied for supporting collagen, brightening the complexion, and helping to even tone. The tiny grit of hand-milled rose hips is left intentionally in Velvet Petal — offering a soft exfoliation that buffs away dullness while delivering these nourishing compounds.
I mill and sift both petals and hips myself, adjusting until the texture feels just right. This choice makes Velvet Petal unique: it carries not only the plant’s science, but the human hand, the craft, and the care behind it.
✨ Meet Velvet Petal – Botanical Cleansing Powder, and let your ritual of care begin with a touch as soft as petals.
